What Is A 4G Wireless Doorbell & Who Should Use It?

Traditional video intercom systems heavily rely on local Wi-Fi, Ethernet cable or complex wired installation. For many outdoor locations such as farm gates, livestock sites, rural schools and remote parks, pulling network cables is expensive or physically impossible. This is where a 4G wireless doorbell (also known as 4G cellular video intercom) becomes a practical security solution.

A 4G wireless doorbell runs on 4G / 3G / 2G cellular networks via a standard SIM card. Instead of connecting to a local router, it transfers video, audio and access-control data over the mobile cellular network. Authorized users can answer visitor calls, view real-time camera feed and unlock the door remotely via the Tuya mobile app, SMS or phone call, no matter where they are located.

Core Working Principle

Once a valid SIM card is inserted and DC power is connected, the unit automatically searches and registers the cellular network within around 35 seconds. If the cellular signal is too weak, the device falls back into access-control-only mode. In this mode, all local access features such as password unlock and RFID card still work normally, while cloud and app-related network functions are suspended. It retries the network connection every 60 seconds and resumes full functions after successful network registration.

Main Hardware & Software Highlights

Camera: 2MP resolution, 110° horizontal field of view, starlight-level night vision with auto LED fill light for dark entrances

AI Detection: built-in AI chip supports human, pet, parcel and vehicle detection, pushing real-time event alerts to the mobile app

Access options: RFID card, user password, temporary/scheduled password, SMS unlock, phone-call unlock, exit-button trigger

Local storage: micro-SD card slot supporting up to 128GB for local video recording

Operating environment: works stably from -20℃ to +65℃, suitable for harsh outdoor installation

Typical Application Scenarios

1.Farms & livestock sites: remote gate entry where broadband internet is unavailable

2.Schools & public parks: public entrances with limited network wiring

3.Construction sites & temporary facilities: quick-deploy visitor management without laying communication cables

4.Isolated warehouses & storage yards: remote gate monitoring for off-site managers

5.Rural residential gated entries: locations with poor or unstable home Wi-Fi coverage

FAQ
Q: Does a 4G doorbell require home Wi-Fi?

A: No. It relies on SIM-card cellular data. Local Wi-Fi connection is not required for core intercom and remote-unlock functions.

Q: What happens if the 4G signal is lost?

A: It enters access-control-only mode. Local unlock methods including password, RFID card and exit button keep working. Network functions auto-resume once the cellular signal recovers.

Q: Do I need a special SIM card?

A: A standard 4G IoT SIM or regular mobile SIM with data & voice service works. Check local carrier LTE band compatibility before deployment.
