Singapore operators plan 3G shutdown in 2024
Singtel, StarHub, and M1 announced plans to shut down their 3G networks by 31 July 2024, repurposing the spectrum to enhance 5G services. The closure affects 3G voice, messaging, and data on the 2100MHz and 900MHz bands. The operators have been urging 3G customers to migrate to 4G or 5G services and will implement measures to assist users in transitioning to other networks. Data shows Singtel had 221,000 3G connections, StarHub 183,000, and M1 134,000 at the end of Q2. Many operators in Asia Pacific are closing or planning to close their 3G networks.
